5 Factors to Consider with Swing Gates

When it comes to your home or business, why should it be any different? A driveway or parking area is where you can attract attention — both good or bad. That’s why it’s important to put thought and consideration in how you present your property.

Gate entrances are extremely popular. Not just for their looks, but for security purposes as well. Living in Oklahoma, though, you might encounter some setbacks with the weather. Keeping this in mind, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of different gate types.

Our team at Top Quality Doors has gathered five factors to consider with swing gates (the most common gate type). We hope this information sheds some light and helps guide you in your gate decisions!

1. Consider space requirements.

When shopping for a swing driveway gate for your home or business, the first thing you’ll want to consider is space. Make sure you have plenty of space for the gate to open — whether you choose inward or outward. If you don’t have enough space, you could potentially face liability issues from damaged property. The idea is to provide access to your visitors, not hurt them.

2. Present the perks.

Swing gates are popular for various reasons. One being they require fewer repairs. Compared to slide gates, they have fewer moving parts. This decreases the risk of wear, tear and breakdowns. Swing gates are also quieter and more pleasing to the eye. they glide rather than travel through an extended track.

3. Assess the drawbacks.

We love swing gates, we really do. But as with all gate types, you’ll run into some cons. If you live in an area with high wind (usually in the plains area), we wouldn’t recommend a swing gate. High wind can keep your gate from closing which causes the engine to burn up while attempting to shut.

Some other instances you might not install a swing gate would be if you have landscaping blocking the open range. Or, if your driveway has a major slope, you may run into issues with scrapping the ground.

4. Explore your options.

Swing gates are great, but sometimes not the best choice for everyone. Slide gates, however, are also a great option to consider. They work better in tight, compact spaces where a swing zone isn’t possible. Additionally, if you’re worried your visitors will misjudge distance, slide gates keep them (and your investment) safe from damage.

5. Bring in a professional.

With various gate options to consider, it can be both confusing and frustrating making a decision. Whatever you choose, know that Top Quality Doors is here to guide you from start to finish.
